  • Bertolt Brecht’s ‘Mother Courage and Her Children’ is a powerful anti-war play following a mother’s journey through a war-torn landscape as she tries to survive and protect her children while profiting from the conflict. This production, translated by Lee Hall,  directed by Mark Dornford-May and featuring Co Durham’s Ensemble ‘84 and South Africa’s Isango Ensemble, brings a bold reimagining of the classic story with music, movement, and striking theatricality.

  • This production is recommended for audiences aged 12+ due to themes of war, survival, and conflict. Parental discretion is advised.

  • Yes, the show features a live musical score, incorporating powerful vocals and dynamic rhythms that are integral to the storytelling.

  • The production may include flashing lights and loud music. If you have sensitivities to these effects, please take this into account before attending.

  • Yes, we have toilets in the venue – including those with access needs.

  • Yes, we have an accessible ramp – which provides access to the venue from street level.

  • There is no formal dress code—please dress comfortably.

  • Photography, filming, and audio recording are strictly prohibited during the performance to respect the work of the artists and fellow audience members. However, you are welcome to take photos in the foyer/ outside the building and share your experience on social media.

  • Yes, we may be taking footage of the performance - we will advise you if this is taking place at your performance.

  • No, refreshments will not be available at the venue. Please plan accordingly and refrain from bringing alcohol into the venue.

  • No, we do not have a cloakroom. Please avoid bringing large bags, as we will not have space to store them.

  • Limited parking is available on local streets. Free parking is available nearby at Sea View Health Centre and Horden Rail Station, both less than 5 mins walk away from the venue. We encourage you to use public transport where possible.

  • Latecomers may not be admitted until a suitable break in the performance. Please arrive on time to ensure you don’t miss any of the show.
